This is a short blog post on web monetization. The future as we all seen today has been a sum aggregate of what it was over the past few years. Many at times we see changes and mode of handling these changes to better suit everyone and create value to every profession. The world is ever-changing and giving out it's best in form of technology.
What is Web Monetization?
Web Monetization (WM) is a proposed API standard that allows websites to request a stream of very small payments (e.g. fractions of a cent) from a user.
The API's framework provides new revenue models for websites and web-based services and is an alternative to subscription services and advertising, all while preserving the user's privacy.
In exchange for payments from the user, websites can provide the user with a "premium" experience, such as allowing access to exclusive content, removing advertising, or even removing the need to log in to access content or services. This means that a content writer/creator can earn a little amount of token when he/she enables web monetization on his post and a user with token access his content, isn't this awesome.? We have been operating in a poor way of rewarding content creators and also making their contents less appreciated by users.
Why Web Monetization?
Before now methods like subscription was been used where users can access the content of they had subscribed for a platform either monthly or yearly and this has little impact as users tend to only access for a little period, either to get answers to an assignment or just to read a particular piece of information. This could have cost more on users as they don't have to access this platform after a particular task have been achieved let's take this for an example let's say I wanted to access a library to get a book for assignment as this was for a course and I just need this one time, then I got to the library and was told to pay for membership form and monthly card. This would have been a great idea if I would be using the library every week. But with web monetization, you pay as you go. I don't have to subscription for the full month to read or borrow the book I want, this in return has saved me more money and makes me access any content anytime I want.
